One of the things I miss the most when traveling is my morning smoothie. I can sometimes find a smoothie place but they are often ether really expensive or just full of sugar and of little nutritional value. So when we get an Airbnb or housesit, the first thing I check for is a blender. If I find one I head straight to the local market or grocery store to stock up on ingredients. I often have to get creative with my recipes as I’m not always able to find the items I use back home but I love the challenge of creating new delicious concoctions.
This Choconutty smoothie is one of my favorites and I’ve re-created it many times with different ingredients but this is the original. It’s packed full of healthy stuff to boost energy and satisfy both appetite and taste buds.
Choconutty Protein Smoothie
1 scoop of chocolate whey or soy protein powder
1 tablespoon of flaxseed
1 tablespoon of bee pollen
6-10 almonds
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of peanut butter
1 handful of greens of your choice (spinach & kale are my faves)
1/2 a banana
1 cup skim or almond milk
ice cubes *optional
Just blend it all together until smooth and enjoy for breakfast or healthy snack.
Born in England, Sarah developed her wanderlust at a young age as she traveled around Europe with her parents. As a young adult she spent every penny she could on experiences as opposed to possessions. Eventually she found a way to earn a living doing what she loved: traveling, writing and capturing images of the wondrous world we live in. When not on the go Sarah enjoys time in her “sometimes home” of Vancouver.
